THE FORMULA 1® EXHIBITION OPENS IN LONDON, AUGUST 23rd 2024
We are excited to announce Silverstone Museum’s involvement in the brand new Formula 1® Exhibition taking place at ExCeL London. The pioneering exhibition will be bigger and better than ever before with exclusive and iconic Formula 1®championship winning cars, Formula 1® artefacts, simulator experience and contributions from leading teams.
Opening on August 23rd 2024 at one of London’s most popular exhibition destinations, ExCeL London, visitors will have the chance to get up close and personal with pieces of motorsport history and delve into the fascinating world of Formula 1® - including several historic artefacts exclusively from Silverstone Museum’s archives. Having launched to widespread critical acclaim in Madrid, the London show is set to be the biggest F1® Exhibition show to date, with a number of new additions, including soon-to-be-announced iconic Formula 1® cars, and historic memorabilia from the world of F1®.
New for London, the partnership with Silverstone Museum will bring to life unique stories from the British Grand Prix™. State-of-the art racing simulators using official F1® gaming equipment will also feature, giving visitors the chance to experience what it’s like to sit behind the wheel of an F1® car as they race around the iconic Silverstone track. All racers will be entered into a monthly prize draw to win tickets for the 2025 British Grand Prix™ at Silverstone.
Several years in the making, the exhibition is hosted across six purpose-built rooms designed in collaboration with award-winning curators and filmmakers, to create an immersive adventure through the past, present and future of Formula 1®.
With contributions from legendary teams, drivers and experts, including the breath-taking charred chassis remains from Romain Grosjean’s 2020 Bahrain crash and insights into the cutting-edge technology behind Pirelli’s new FSC tyres, the exhibition combines spectacular audio-visual design, rare film and imagery, engineering displays and iconic Grand Prix™ cars to deliver an unforgettable experience for everyone.
Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer of Formula 1®, said: “It’s fitting to bring the F1 Exhibition to the UK capital and pay tribute to the British teams and drivers and personalities who have etched themselves into F1 history. The F1 Exhibition has been incredibly popular since its launch in Madrid, and successful runs in Vienna and Toronto prove that it is a great way to engage with both hardcore fans and new audiences, whilst extending F1’s reach beyond the racetrack. London is one of the most cultural vibrant cities in the world, and we look forward to welcoming visitors from around the world to the show.”
Timothy Harvey, Lead Curator and Producer of The Formula 1® Exhibition, said: “It’s been incredible to see how fans around the world have reacted to the exhibition since opening last year. London was always going to be an incredibly special location for us, so I am looking forward to what’s to come. Each show recognises the national heritage of its host location, and as Britain is the home of racing this will be a really special show. There’s also some fantastic soon-to-be-announced additions coming to London, including incredible cars - we can’t wait to open our doors!”
Phil Lawrie, Chief Executive Officer of Silverstone Museum, said: "We are thrilled to partner with The Formula 1® Exhibition. This collaboration is a significant milestone for us as it allows us to share the rich history and heritage of Silverstone and the British Grand Prix with a wider audience through The Formula 1® Exhibition at ExCeL. It is truly special to have the opportunity to showcase some of the unseen artefacts from our extensive archive, many of which have never been displayed publicly before. This exhibition will offer fans an unparalleled glimpse into the fascinating world of Formula 1® and through the involvement of Silverstone Museum we will help those fans celebrate the sport’s British heritage and British motor racing’s enduring impact on F1.”
